The Cry2 Gene and its SNPs

The Cryptochrome 2 protein is a critical constituent of the negative feedback portion of the circadian clock mechanism. In brief, it is expressed when the CLOCK-BMAL1 complex activates its promotor region. Cry2 then forms a complex with one of the Per proteins as well as a casein kinase, moves into the nucleus and shuts off clock expression, forming a negative feedback loop.
