To examine the genetic components of hypertension, a genetic association study was conducted in the Karelian population in Russia. The participants were genotyped from blood samples and assessed for essential arterial hypertension and coronary artery disease according to the Society of Cardiology of the Russian Federation.

It was determined that in both females and males, those with the CC genotype of the rs1801260 SNP in clock had a greater risk of hypertension and coronary artery disease.
